Where to Buy

Where to Buy Music

If you like the music I write about on this website, I hope you’ll support the artists through buying their music, going to their concerts, and supporting the labels, retail outlets, radio stations, and podcasts that help you hear these great musicians.

If you’re wondering where to buy music, I’ll point you first to your local independent record store. Mine is The Record Exchange in Boise, Idaho, pictured above on the left. Pictured on the right is another favorite if mine, Music Millennium in Portland, Oregon. For a list of some other independent stores in the US, try Think Indie. Local music stores are so much more than places to buy CDs and vinyl. They introduce the community to local and regional musicians, promote concerts and events, and have knowledgable people who eat, sleep, and breathe music.

Sometimes mail order is the best way to go, and for mail order I always start with cdRoots.

And don’t forget, one of the best try-before-you-buy places is your local library.
