Here Comes Trouble

Here’s a press release for an upcoming event in New York City called Here Comes Trouble. I noticed it because one of the six artists performing is Razia. I’ve written recently about how much I love her record Zebu Nation.

Beyond the performers, some of the quotes from the organizers also caught my eye. These words have been rolling around in my head for the past few days:

Global is over. Long live the local!

It’s not about hybrids anymore. It’s about doing what you love and live and know, and running wild with it.

And this one which I especially liked:

Hybridization was a way to make unfamiliar global music more palatable to new audiences. But musicians aren’t making world music anymore; they make their music and play it the intense, funky way it’s been played for generations.

There are samples and downloads on the website of ten tracks by the Here Comes Trouble artists including two by Razia. The samples are free; you have to sign up to get the downloads.
